I have decided, as you can obviously see, to begin a blog. Now, when I left America I thought that starting a blog would be sort of self important – I mean really, who am I to assume that people want to read random tidbits about my life? Well, I sort of still feel this way, but have found writing to be incredibly entertaining and therapeutic for myself. I could lie and say that with this blog I am working towards one of the three goals of peace corps: to teach Americans about other cultures… But while this is a coincidental result, I am actually being entirely selfish in starting this little virtual diary of sorts. Deal.
I hope that some people will choose to read it. Even more so, I hope that those that do in fact flip through the virtual pages are at least slightly entertained or at perhaps find themselves a tad bit more well informed about Mozambique, its people and culture, HIV in Southern Africa, the Mozambican education system, great vacation spots, ‘How To’s’ Mozambican style, or just my daily life and changing worldview. I have included some of my previous emails here, just to get this baby started, so please forgive any redundancy if you did in fact receive/read any of this before.
A word on the title, eating pineapple in the shade is my absolute favorite thing to do here. And since I have recently found out that it is bound to be 90-100 degrees pretty much every day until march, this newfound pasttime might just keep me sane for the next two months. So here goes. I hope you enjoy, because I know I will.
